Key Benefits for Healthy Skin: #5 Protection for Your Skin
We hope you have enjoyed our “Key Benefits for Healthy Skin” blog series over the last few weeks. As we’ve shared, there are five key benefits for healthy skin – balance, strengthen, brighten, smooth and protect and the BioEsse Probiotic Skin Care line addresses all of them. We wrap the series today with benefit #5 – the importance of protecting your skin.
Since the discovery that exposure to ultraviolet radiation is the leading cause of skin cancer, shielding skin from the damaging rays of the sun is a must. To do that properly, you need to understand the differences between the two types of ultraviolet rays to ensure you’re getting the proper protection. Ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation passes through glass and may cause premature aging and wrinkling. Research also suggests UVA may play a role in basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation on the other hand is more closely linked to the development of skin cancer and melanoma. UVB also causes sunburn and does not penetrate glass. Sun damage builds over time which is why it is so important to protect your skin every day, rain or shine. Make sure you choose a water-proof or water-resistant broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 and it protects against both UVA and UVB radiation. A few other tips -- use a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above and apply all sunscreens 30 minutes before going outdoors, reapplying every hour if you are swimming or sweating.
Research has proven there is another very important way to protect skin, long before you go outside: probiotics applied topically, and that’s where BioEsse Probiotic Skin Care and our proprietary patented natural probiotic extract - Qi ProBiomics - can help. Your skin is the first line of defense against harmful environmental aggressors like germs and the UV radiation we talked about earlier. It is your “body guard” of sorts. Protect your skin by maintaining healthy skin pH levels with the BioEsse “Second Barrier” technology. The normal acidic (or low) skin pH called the skin “acid mantle” helps support healthy skin defense against infection caused by germs and supports a healthy skin microbiome. Other skin products on the market have inappropriately high or alkaline (high) pH, which compromises the acid mantle. The BioEsse Probiotic Skin Care line consists of products formulated at a gentle, healthy-skin low pH. Other ways to make sure you are protecting your skin are washing away dirt, oil and makeup every night and moisturizing daily to prevent dry skin, which can compromise the skin’s acid mantle.
